In August 2025 the Youth Athlete of the Year online contest had 115,200 participants and our Kindred Viking, Trey Teberg, was one of them. In the semifinal round Trey was one of 360 athletes remaining.
Free, daily votes, via Facebook, could be given to participants through the contest or supporters could buy additional votes.
Trey did not advance to the final 18, but over the course of his participation raised over $30,000. Money raised benefits the V Foundation, doing game-changing cancer research and the Why Not You Foundation. The Why Not You Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty through education, empowering youth to lead with a why not you attitude. The foundation supports student access to equal education opportunities, children's health and food security initiatives. Its mission is to equip today's youth with the skills and opportunities to become tomorrow's leaders.
The online competition is supported by Sports Illustrated, 3BRAND. The winner will get recognition in Sports Illustrated and scholarship dollars. While Trey is out of competition, the online contest runs into early October.
Way to Go Viking!
